The solar post cap is plastic with glass windows. It provides ambient light without electricity. LED light bulbs should last about 10 years (based on normal usage of 6-8 hours a day). Rechargeable batteries last about a year. Before using, fully charge batteries in direct sunlight for 24-48 hours.
