The red prayer plant gets its name from its behavior. The Prayer plant display nyctinasty, meaning their leaves move in accordance with their circadian rhythm. Their leaves open towards the sun throughout the day to maximize light intake and return to an upright position at night to retain moisture and prevent water collection on the leaves, reminiscent of hands in prayer. This houseplant is relatively easy to care for. Red Veined Maranta prefer medium to bright indirect sunlight. Place it near an East or West facing window that is filtered by a thin curtain or blinds. Water your prayer plant when the first 2 inches of soil are dry, being careful not to overwater. This indoor plants like moist soil, but not saturated.
